Preparing young people with skills for life

We're Scouts and everyone is welcome here. Every week, we help almost half a million people aged 4-25 develop skills for life. Are you ready to join the adventure?

Welcome to 1st Strathaven Scout Group

1st Strathaven Scout Group has provided Scouting to Strathaven and the surrounding villages since 1908, around 1 year after Robert Baden-Powell sounded his Kudu Horn at the first Scout Camp on Brownsea Island in August 1907.

Over the years our Young People have travelled far and wide with Scouts travelling to America, Canada, New Zealand, all over Europe and to the 25th World Scout Jamboree in South Korea in 2023.

We are a growing group with 186 young people across 3 Beaver Colonies, 2 Cub Packs (with another on the way), 2 Scout Troops and a very active ESU that graduate into the District Network. We encourage all of our over 18’s to become Leaders whether the remain local or leave home for college or university.

So, what do Scouts do?

Scouts are do-ers and give-it-a-go-ers. Yes, we go camping, hiking, swimming, abseiling, cycling and canoeing.

But, we also get to hang out with our friends every week – having fun, playing games, working in a team and taking on new challenges.

Every week we give almost half a million 4-25 year olds the skills they need for school, college, university, the job interview, the important speech, the tricky challenge and the big dreams: the skills they need for life.

Everyone’s welcome here. All genders, races and backgrounds. Regardless of your young person’s physical ability – there’s a Scout adventure out there waiting for them. And we’ll help them find it.
