Cubs Explore the Great Outdoors at Fordell Firs Camp

Date: 21st May 2025 Author: James MacClancy

The Friday cubs section recently enjoyed an action packed camp at Fordell Firs. The leaders along with about 25 cubs headed to the Scouts HQ in Scotland excited for a 2 night camping adventure.

The cubs arrived on the Friday night and set up their kit in their tents for the weekend ahead. They then enjoyed a competitive game of rounders, followed by a trip to the adventure play park and finished with supper around the camp fire and of course some toasted marshmallows.

On the Saturday the cubs split into two groups and set off on their instructor led activities. These included caving (a favourite amongst the children!) and sailing on bell boats. In the evening they joined with other scouts units at the site and had a camp fire and a sing-a-long.  Many of the cubs got up to tell jokes in front of everyone or to lead a song. There was a wide variety including traditional camp fire songs like kum-ba-ya, a new favourite ‘Bungalow’ and even the Steve’s Lava Chicken song from the Minecraft Movie!

On Sunday morning some very sleepy cubs emerged from their tents to another beautiful sunny day on camp. After packing up and eating breakfast the cubs went off to enjoy some more activities including crate climbing and abseiling.  Then it was back to camp for lunch and to award all of the badges earned on camp. Ross, Stuart and Harris all received their silver awards and everyone wished them well as they move onto their new adventures with scouts.

Thank you to all of the leaders who volunteered their spare time to plan, organise and run the camp for our cubs. Thank you to the parents who brought along all the delicious home baking, this was enjoyed by the leaders and the cubs throughout the weekend!

Did your child LOVE camp?

We love providing opportunities like this to the cubs as well as the weekly adventures and badge work. We are a small group of volunteers who are all new to scouting and have children currently attending cubs. As our children move onto scouts we will too.  We therefore need people, just like you, to come along and join us to learn how to run cubs and take over when we move on.

If you’d like to get involved or just come along to see what its like just speak to one of your cubs leaders or contact us on the cubs email.
